Young astrophysicists of Almaty successfully launched rockets on Cosmonautics Day

On 11 April 2025, on the eve of the World Day of Aviation and Astronautics, a bright scientific and engineering holiday – a ceremonial launch of model rockets assembled by students of the astrophysics laboratory – took place at the Almaty Schoolchildren’s Palace.

During a month the guys carefully prepared for this event: they developed designs, tested materials and discussed aerodynamic parameters of their flying machines. The rockets were handmade from paper, caramel fuel and PLA composite material created using 3D printing.

Among the authors of the unique models are young inventors of the Cosmonautics Laboratory Margarita Makarova, Adilzhan Marat, Fatima Myltykbai, Kamila Karimova, Nazima Khudaibergenova and Aikhan Talipov. Each of them put into their rocket not only technical knowledge, but also a part of their soul, showing responsibility, creativity and sincere interest in science!

The launch was flawless: all rockets successfully soared into the sky, reached a height of about 200 metres and opened their parachutes exactly at the apogee of the flight. This was a convincing proof of the children’s excellent training and their serious approach to business.

The festive event was not only the culmination of the educational project, but also a real inspiration for all participants. It showed that among today’s schoolchildren there may be future engineers, scientists and even astronauts, ready to conquer new heights with persistence and inspiration!
