Space dreams become projects: Kazakhstan Smart Space 2025 completed

On 11 April 2025, the final stage of the IV International Competition on space technology and engineering Kazakhstan Smart Space 2025, held from 9 to 11 April in Almaty at Satbayev University, was completed.

The competition, organised by Satbayev University, the «National Centre for Space Research and Technology» JSC (NCSRT) and the Kazakhstan Institute of Project Management, was a notable event in celebration of Astronautics Day, bringing together more than 60 teams of young researchers and engineers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, France, UAE and Uzbekistan. The participants, aged from 7 to 22, presented innovative solutions in 12 thematic areas in three nominations: mock-ups, working models and research projects.

NCSRT traditionally acts as one of the key organisers and actively participates in expert and mentoring support of the participants. The jury of the competition included leading specialists of the Centre, including Chairman of the Board Dzhanikeev M.S., Advisor to the Chairman of the Board Buralkhieva R.S., Chief Designer Omarbaev M.K., Director of the Department Mukhadiev N.B., Head of the Materials Science Laboratory Meirbekov M.N.

Among the winners are talented schoolchildren and students who presented projects on topics ranging from space energy and satellite navigation to sustainable Martian settlements and development of nano-satellites.

Special mention should be made of the scientific conference ‘Space – 2030 in Kazakhstan’ held as part of the competition on 11 April. It brought together about 10 speakers who discussed issues of strategic development of the space industry and digitalisation of the economy through space technologies.
